Zambia to Botswana 10 Day Safari

This safari tour starts in Livingston, Zambia, where one of our first stops will be to experience magnificent Victoria Falls! There will be time to do other optional sightseeing activities before embarking on the safari that will go through Chobe National Park, Savuti Park, and Moremi Game Reserve before finishing in Maun, Botswana. Enjoy some amazing wildlife along the way during daily game drives and a couple of river boat rides. There are two accommodation options as well: Camping, or luxury lodges. Both options follow just about the same travel itinerary, with only a couple of differences, noted below.

Day 1: Welcome to Zambia!

Meals: None

Arrive in Zambia mid-day. You will take a shuttle bus from the Livingstone, Zambia airport (LVI) to the The Zambezi Waterfront Lodge, staying in the nicely appointed chalets. Once at the lodge, you will check in and have the rest of the afternoon to relax. There are optional afternoon excursion activities, depending on what time you arrive and depending on how active you would like to be; there is also an outdoor swimming pool on site.

Day 2: Enjoy sight-seeing at your leisure

Meals: Breakfast

This is your free day at the Zambezi Waterfront Lodge. There is a wide range of activities that can be booked, and we recommend booking them in advance to ensure that you will have a reservation and to avoid activities selling out (we can help you with this)! Likewise you're free to explore on your own, perhaps visit the Livingstone Museum or go shopping in town.

Day 3: Victoria Falls, Zambia to Botswana

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, we will pack up and meet our safari guide! He will drive us to the amazing Victoria Falls where we will have an hour to walk around and enjoy the amazing views. There are also some shops on site that sell unique, handmade products. We will then take the bus to the border crossing with Botswana (you can see Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia at this point). We will clear customs and then continue into Botswana. We will stop along the way for a sandwich lunch.

Camping option:
If you are camping, we will get to the camp site by mid afternoon. You will have time to relax and unwind a the camp site before we depart for our first evening game drive! We will return to camp around sunset and enjoy a nicely cooked meal under the stars as we compare notes from this first true day of oure safari!

Luxury lodge option:
If you are staying in a luxury lodge, we will arrive at the lodge by mid afternoon. You will have time to unwind and relax at the lodge before we set out for our first evening game drive! By the time we return after sunset, we will have a lovely evening meal served outdoors while we compare notes about this first true day of our safari! Luxury lodge: Chobe Safari Lodge

Day 4: Explore Chobe National Park

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We will begin the day with a morning game drive. Afterwards, we will take a break at the camp site or lodge for a while, enjoy lunch, then prepare for an afternoon river boat ride along the Chobe River and around one of the islands that straddles Botswana and Namibia. This will give you a different view of how the animals along the riverfront thrive. You will see a variety of birds and may even be lucky enough to see a monitor lizard, or watch a mother elephant teach her baby how to swim. If you are using the lodge option, tonight's luxury lodge: Chobe Safari Lodge

Day 5: Chobe to Savuti

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, we will go on a small game drive and then head to Savuti Park, which is situated within Chobe National Park itself. Savuti is approximately halfway between Moremi and Chobe and sits on a rift line. You'll see more hills in this region. We will have lunch en route. You might even spot a bush airport (a single runway with no surrounding buildings) during our journey. We will take an evening game drive in Savuti to see the unusual landscape. If you are using the lodge option, tonight's luxury lodge: Savute Safari Lodge

Day 6: Savuti Park to Moremi Game Reserve

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, we will start with a morning game drive in Savuti before departing for Moremi Game Reserve. During this drive, we will pass through a lot of savanna territory. You will likely spot animals in various parts of the journey, perhaps even spying an ostrich or two running through the fields. Notice how the countryside changes. We will arrive (either in camp or at our next lodge) with time to unpack and freshen up, then enjoy an evening game drive through the Savuti area. Dinner will be served when we return. If you are using the lodge option, tonight's luxury lodge: Xakanaxa Camp

Day 7: Game Drives in Moremi

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After an early breakfast, there will be morning game drive for several hours while we see what the animals are doing; this is a good opportunity to see the animals in action, before they pause for their mid-day break. Then we will head back (either to the camp site, or to the lodge) for lunch and some free time. We will go on an evening game drive to look for more animals, before returning around sunset for dinner. All meals included. If you are staying at the lodge, tonight's luxury lodge: Xakanaxa Camp

Day 8: Moremi Game Drives

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Camping: If you are camping, we will hit the road early after breakfast. We will have more of an extended game drive today as we head to a secluded island that is far off the grid, within the beautiful Okavango Delta! We will stop for lunch (sandwiches) along the way. We will take about an hour long boat ride to get to the island, and will likely see plenty of wildlife both on the way to the boat launch site, and also while on the boat ride itself. We will enjoy a lovely dinner under the stars, on the island.

Luxury Lodge: If you are staying at a lodge, this morning we will rise early for our first game drive of the day! We will have the chance to spot many different kinds of animals; will the predators still be active this morning as we set out? We will return to the lodge in time for lunch, and will have a midday respite from activities (though there is a pool on site and several nice patios where you can enjoy the outdoors). We will take another game drive for several hours this evening to see what else we find! We will enjoy our dinner in the open air at the lodge this evening. Tonight's luxury lodge: Xakanaxa Camp

Day 9: Moremi to Maun

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Camping: If you are camping, you will wake up on the secluded island and enjoy several options for breakfast before we head out. We will again take a boat ride to get back to our safari vehicle. We will likely spot some animals in their morning activities as we enjoy the sights and sounds this morning. After arriving at our vehicle, we will take an extended game drive as we finally leave Moremi Game Reserve and head to the Sedia Hotel in Maun this afternoon. We will stop for a sandwich lunch along the way.

Luxury Lodge: If you are staying in lodges on this trip, you will wake up at Xakanaxa Camp this morning and enjoy one more breakfast at camp. We will take a quick game drive, and then start heading to Maun for our final stop at the Sedia Hotel.

Day 10: Depart from Botswana
