Day 1: Arrive in Lima, Peru!

Welcome to Peru! You will begin your adventure in the capital city of Lima. After clearing customs, your personal tour guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel. If your flight arrives in the evening, you will have time to relax before embarking on your amazing sightseeing tour the following day. If you arrive before evening, you can explore the neighborhood area around your hotel and your guide can make suggestions as well.

Day 2: Lima to Cusco - Begin touring Inca sites

Early this morning, your guide in Lima will escort you back to the Lima airport for your domestic flight to the ancient city of Cusco, in the Andes Mountains. In Cusco, your Cusco-area guide will pick you up from the airport, and you will enjoy a walking city tour of Cusco which was a large population center in Inca times. You will see the famous ruins of Sacsayhuaman (and a gorgeous view of Cusco), and tour the Inca ruins and Dominican church of Koricancha, visit the Church of San Blas, and tour some traditional handicraft markets.

Day 3: Cusco to Scared Valley – Cultural excursion

Depart from Cusco into the Sacred Valley. You will have time to drop off your belongings at the hotel. Then you will visit the ruins of the city of Pisac and will also visit the traditional market there. You will also visit a handicraft center where you will see demonstrations of how Alpaca fur is turned into wool that can be used to make beautiful handicrafts. Learn about the culture of the Andean people and optionally bring along something from home that you can give (example: warm shoes for the cold winter months are greatly appreciated). Finally, you will have time to relax and explore a botanical garden

Days 4 – 6: Hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu!

Be amazed as you hike from the Puno region of Peru down to the jungle. You will pass through many ecosystems, rising to an elevation of nearly 14,000 feet near the summit of Dead Woman Pass. Overnight camping will take place near the Inca sites of Sayamarka and Puyupatamarka. You will have a personal porter who can carry up to 16 pounds of your personal equipment during the trek. Note that you may leave non-essential items at your Cusco hotel while you hike. On night 6, you will stay at a hotel in the quaint town of Aguas Calientes, at the base of Machu Picchu.

Day 7: Machu Picchu!

What you’ve been waiting for! Tour Machu Picchu at daybreak and enjoy watching the sunrise on this amazing, historic citadel. Your tour of the ancient city will last several hours as you learn about the different temples constructed here, and the lifestyle of the people who used to call this location home. In the evening, you will return via train to Cusco.

Day 8: Cusco to Lima to home

This morning, you will transfer back to the airport at Cusco and fly back to Lima. From Lima, you will connect to your flight back home (or wherever your journey takes you next). 

Important Note: Please schedule your flight home to depart no earlier than 2PM from Lima so that you have enough time to fly from Cusco back to Lima.
