Botswana to Zambia & back: 14 Day Safari

This round trip safari tour starts and ends in Maun, Botswana. Visit the Moremi Game Reserve to see a wide array of wildlife, then continue onto Savuti Park and its change of landscapes, followed by Chobe National Park, where you will enjoy wildlife from the water. Cross the border into Zambia to see Victoria Falls and partake in multiple optional fun activities. The final leg of the journey ventures back into Botswana to see some of the world famous salt pans and the flamingoes that are native to the region, before returning to Maun.

Day 1: Welcome to Botswana!

Accommodations: Sedia Hotel

Meals: None

You will fly into Maun, Botswana and your safari guide will greet you at the airport. You will experience your first ride in a safari vehicle as you are transported to your hotel on the outskirts of Maun. It is an arid, desert-like climate but you will likely spot a few colorful birds as you rest up at the Sedia Hotel for the night.

Day 2: Maun to Moremi

Accommodations: Camping

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Once we finish breakfast at the hotel, we will drive to our first camp site in Moremi Park, called Xakanaxa. We will arrive and have time to unpack, eat our first lunch in camp, and settle down for a bit. We will go on our first evening game drive tonight, possibly crossing over some of the small, unusual bridges in this part of Moremi. Let's see what animals await!

Day 3: Explore Moremi Park

Accommodations: Camping

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, we will leave our camp site in Xakanaxa and go on our first morning game drive. Once that is complete, we will take a river boat ride in an authentic mokoro canoe (which is a hand-made canoe carved out of a single tree). After the fascinating river excursion, we will continue to our next camp site in Khwai, a little further north in Moremi Park. We will have ample time to settle in and unpack, before embarking on our evening game drive

Day 4: Game drives in Moremi

Accommodations: Camping

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We will go on a morning game drive after breakfast for a few hours to see what the waking animals are doing. When we conclude the game drive, we will go back to camp where there will be some down time to enjoy lunch, catch up on reading, and enjoy talking with your fellow travelers about all that you have encountered so far. In the evening, there will be another game drive before having dinner back at camp.

Day 5: Moremi Park to Savuti Park

Accommodations: Camping

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We will have breakfast at the camp site, then we will go on our final morning game drive in Moremi. After the game drive, we will head a little further north to our next camp site in Savuti. We will pass through some large stretches of grassland along our drive today and will possibly spot animals at various points en route. We will reach our camp site by mid-afternoon, and will go on our first evening game drive in Savuti.

Day 6: Game drives in Savuti Park

Accommodations: Camping

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We will go on our first game drive of the day after breakfast this morning and enjoy all of the animals in Savuti. This is an area where there’s a good chance to see “bachelor” male elephants traveling on their own or in small groups (as opposed to the female family groups that are more common in Moremi and Chobe). We will have leisure time in the middle of the day, and then will go on another game drive in the evening.

Day 7: Savuti Park to Chobe National Park

Accommodations: Camping

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, we will go on a morning game drive in Savuti, and then will head to Chobe National Park. Along our drive to Chobe, keep your eyes open for a seldom-used bush airport (a paved runway, and maybe a small, portable staircase). We will arrive at Chobe in the middle of the afternoon and will have lunch at our camp site there. After some free time, we will go on our first evening game drive in Chobe. You will notice that there are more watering holes in Chobe, and therefore a good chance of spotting a multitude of animals drinking, often in harmony with one another.

Day 8: Chobe game drive and boat ride

Accommodations: Camping

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We will take our first morning game drive in Chobe for a few hours. This will be a more relaxing day as we will remain at this camp site until the following day. After the game drive, we will have lunch, and then some time to relax. Instead of an evening game drive, we will go to the nearest town of Kasane and take a motor boat ride along the Chobe River. This will give you another perspective of how the animals along the river thrive. Watch for monitor lizards and fish eagles, as well as elephants, hippos, various sizes of crocodiles, and more. We will arrive back at camp in time for dinner.

Day 9: Chobe to Livingstone, Zambia

Accommodations: Waterfront Lodge

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

We will take our final morning game drive in Chobe, before heading to Livingstone, Zambia, in time for lunch. The Waterfront Lodge, our home for the next couple of nights, offers plenty of optional excursions. Prices range from $40 per person to $200+ per person, based on the activity. Book any optional excursions for this afternoon and tomorrow. Your guide can help you decide which activities make the most sense.

Day 10: Victoria Falls and more

Accommodations: Waterfront Lodge

Meals: Breakfast

We will spend the entire day in Zambia. If you booked any optional excursions, you will enjoy these in the morning and/or afternoon. Your guide will also work around everyone's schedules and will take one or more trips from the lodge to Victoria Falls (the Victoria Falls sighting is included in your safari). Victoria Falls is only about a 10 minute drive from the lodge. You will have about an hour to explore the falls (and gift shops outside of the falls) at your own rate.

Day 11: Zambia to Botswana

Accommodations: Camping

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast at the lodge, we will leave Zambia and cross back into Botswana, continuing the camping part of our safari as we head to Nata Sanctuary, which is part of Makgadikgadi National Park. This park is home to some of Botswana's renowned salt pans and large flocks of flamingos. Roughly 165 species of birds call this sanctuary home. After arriving at camp with time to unpack, we will go on an evening game drive.

Day 12: Nxai Pan National Park

Accommodations: Camping

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After a morning game drive, we will head to our final camp site in Nxai Pan National Park (which is also part of Makgadikgadi National Park). We will go on an evening game drive where we will view various wild animals; large herds of zebras are known to make this their home. The pans here were once ancient salt lakes. We will be camping at this park overnight.

Day 13: Return to Maun

Accommodations: Sedia Hotel

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, we will take our final game drive of the trip, before driving to Maun. This will be a relaxed, easy journey and we will arrive at the now-familiar Sedia Hotel in time for lunch. You will have the rest of the day to relax.

Day 14: Maun and onward

Meals: Breakfast

This is when you will depart Botswana for wherever your journey will take you next. Thank you for traveling with us!
