Best of Bolivia

This eight day excursions starts out in La Paz, Bolivia's vibrant capitol, and takes you to the ancient pre-Inca site of Tiwanaku and the amazing salt flats of Uyuni.

Day 1: Welcome to La Paz, Bolivia!

Arrive in at the El Alto airport in La Paz, Bolivia, where you will meet your local tour team who will transport the group to your hotel in La Paz for the night. Your day includes guide, hotel transfer, and overnight accommodations.

 

Day 2: La Paz City Tour

Meals: Breakfast

This is one of the highest altitude capital cities in the world, where you will see cultural, historic, architectural and natural landmarks. You will visit Murillo Square, the cathedral, the government palace, the San Francisco Church, the Tiahuanaco Temple, the Quilli Quilli viewpoint, the Golden museum, Witches’ market where we will see some facts about traditional medicine and Andean magic, where local people buy all they need for rituals such as Ch’alla and Pachamama (mother earth) offerings. Later you will visit the Moon Valley which features some very unique stone formations. Your day includes breakfast, guide, all entrance fees, all transportation, and hotel accommodations.

Day 3: La Paz to Tiwanaku

One of the most mysterious places in the world, Tiwanaku (dating from 600 BC) was a thriving metropolis long before the Incas even existed. It is situated 28 miles from Lake Titicaca with 7 pyramids and the famous sun gate carved with an ancient calendar. There is also a “world wall” where you can see carved faces of indigenous people from all over the world (Africa, Asia, etc.), sculpted long before the arrival of Westerners. How did they do that and how did they know about all of these different cultures? Nobody really knows. Your day includes breakfast, guide, all entrance fees, lunch, transportation, and hotel accommodations.

Days 4 - 7: Uyuni

Day 4:

You will have a free day to explore La Paz on your own. You will take the night bus to Uyuni.

 

Day 5: Uyuni

Today we arrive at Fish Island in the middle of the 7,300 square mile white salt flat. As far as the eye can see, it looks like you’re on another planet. We will explore the area to see the unique ecosystem that has birds and animals like llamas that have adapted to the 11,000 ft. elevation, with no rain for 10 months of the year. We will also see the largest salt market in world and llama caravans carting salt to all of Bolivia.

 

Day 6: Uyuni

We will depart from the San Juan, Siloli Desert, on the way to some more rock formations, and arrive around 5:30PM at Laguna Colorada. This is a red colored salt lake, it get its unusual coloration from the presence of minerals and algae in the water. In these lagoons we will even see flamingoes! This creates a unique scene of spectacular beauty. 

 

Day 7: Uyuni

This morning, we depart from "Laguna Colorado” and travel to "Sol de Mañana," and Laguna Verde. Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) is a beautiful green colored salt lake on the Chilean border at the foot of Licancabur Volcano. Sediment, containing different minerals, causes the color of this lagoon. The elevation here is around 14,000 ft. above sea level. This evening, we will travel back to Uyuni and take a bus to La Paz.

Day 8: La Paz

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today, we head back to La Paz and the last day in Bolivia. A buffet lunch is provided as a chance to say goodbye to your local team. After lunch, you will be taken to the La Paz airport.

Be sure to bring:
