Addo Elephant Park Safaris
This safari excursion departs from Cape Town and takes you on a lovely route that at times embraces the Southern Coast of South Africa, starting with the Atlantic Ocean and winding up at the Indian Ocean. One of the main destinations on this journey is Addo Elephant Park, the third largest national park in South Africa. A large number of animal species, including the "big five", call this park home.
Note: This is in a malaria-free zone, making it an ideal safari for families!
Please note too that the 6 day safari returns to Cape Town while the 4 and 5 day safaris do not, though they can include round trip transportation for an additional charge; be sure to inquire about this option.
Cape Town to Agulhas
You will be picked up in Cape Town between 6:30 - 7:30AM to begin the day's journey. This will take you through the lovely coastal whale route that includes some beautiful scenery. There will be a stop in the town of Hermanus for lunch (at your own expense). There might even be a chance to glimpse some Southern Right Whales, depending on the season, as these whales come to this coast during breeding time.
After lunch, the route will wind along the coast, affording the opportunity to see unusual wildlife such as Cape Grysbok. There is also a good chance of spotting dolphins or seals while driving along the coast.
Arrive at the night's destination in plenty of time to see a beautiful sunset over the ocean from view of your cottage. Dinner will be served as a two course meal, prepared by the tour guide and served outdoors by one of the cottages. Wine will be served with dinner, but you may purchase other beverages before entering the park.
Agulhas to Tsitsikamma
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
This day will feature another drive through the countryside, enjoying the Overberg and Langeberg grassland regions which are known for producing wheat and fruit. You will also have the opportunity to spot some rare birds such as the endangered Blue Crane. The drive will also pass through the Garden Route, through quaint towns in the lake region, passing by the base of the Outeniqua Mountains.
Reach Tsitsikamma in time for lunch (at your own expense). This area is known as the "Jewel of the Southern Cape." After lunch, enjoy exploring the nearby indigenous forest and coastline while hiking to a waterfall. The Cape Clawless Otter calls these waters home and you may even see one!
Dinner will be served again as a two course meal prepared by the guide and served outdoors near one of the cabins. As with the previous night, wine will be served and you are able to bring along additional beverages that can be purchased beforehand.
Tsitsikamma to Addo Elephant Park
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
There will be an early morning wake up today, to partake in a hike while hoping to spot the elusive and beautiful Knysna Turaco bird. After hiking, breakfast will be served, and then you will depart for Addo Elephant Park. The journey today will range from forest to plantation and then through a semi-arid region. You may even be lucky enough to spot some of the rare raptor bird species that live in this region.
Upon arrival at the park, we will go on a short drive in the enclosed vehicle. At the main rest camp, we will stop for lunch (at your own expense). There will be a game drive this afternoon, conducted by an official park ranger, in a open air safari vehicle. These drives generally last about 3 hours, going into the early evening in hopes of also spotting some of the nocturnal animals that live in the area. Dinner, as before, will be served as a two course meal prepared by the guide and served outdoors by one of the chalets. Wine will also be served and other beverages can be brought along, purchased in advance from the shop.
Addo Elephant Park
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Note: This is just for the 5 and 6 day safaris. The 4 day safari skips this day and proceeds directly to Addo Elephant Park to Port Elizabeth.
There will be two game drives today, morning and afternoon. The morning drive will start very early in the morning before breakfast. Since this park contains a large population of animals, be prepared for some terrific photo opportunities. There will be plenty of opportunity to spot all kinds of wildlife, including the "big five", certain jackal species, tortoises, and a particular species of dung beetle that is endemic to this region of the world.
Upon returning to camp, breakfast will be served, and then there will be some down time. Lunch is available at your own expense. There will also be an afternoon game drive for several hours, to enjoy more of nature and spot some additional animals that may not have been visible during the morning hours.
As usual, dinner will be a two course meal, prepared and served outdoors by one of the chalets. Wine will be served with dinner and other beverages can optionally be purchased at the shop prior to dinner.
